Starting pitchers are perhaps the biggest factor in whether a team succeeds in the postseason. For that reason, some of the most detailed scouting reports are compiled on these opposing starters. Here’s a look at what playoff opponents will see from Ivan Nova.

Fastball: 92-95 MPH
Slider: 84-87 MPH
Curveball: 78-81 MPH
Changeup: 85-88 MPH

The Skinny: Somewhere during his time in the minors, Ivan Nova made his slider into a major weapon. He has a chance to be a legitimate strikeout pitcher now, and not just a pitcher who relies on his heavy sinking fastball. It’s gives him an out pitch to go to now if hitters start to square up that plus fastball.

His curveball is less of a swing and miss offering, and his changeup has progressed to be a solid-average offering. Watch the slider closely, though. If he has it going, he can neutralize the big left-handed bats.
