Starting pitchers are perhaps the biggest factor in whether a team succeeds in the postseason. For that reason, some of the most detailed scouting reports are compiled on these opposing starters. Here’s a look at what playoff opponents will see from Diamondbacks' starter, Ian Kennedy.

Fastball: 89-92 MPH
Changeup: 80-82 MPH
Curveball: 76-78 MPH
Cutter: 86-88 MPH
Slider: 83-85 MPH

The Skinny: Since his days in college Ian Kennedy has pitched with tremendously advanced command and a feel for pitching. This is not to say he’s a total finesse pitcher, however. Kennedy has an average fastball with some two-seam movement and a swing and miss type changeup.

Since his days with the Yankees he’s regained confidence in using his fastball more often. And using it more often has made that changeup all the more effective. Kennedy is a legitimate four or five pitch pitcher and all of them are at least average big league offerings.
