2012 Draft Scouting Report: Pat Light
Events Scouted: Cape Cod League
The numbers speak for themselves. Light is 6-foot-6 and has a prototype frame to be a big league starting pitcher. He's a decent athlete and it looks like there's still some room for him to fill out.
Light is fairly consistent with his mechanics. He comes over the top and uses his height quite well to get a downhill plane.
The combination of sink and velocity make Light's fastball by far his best offering. He lives mostly around 92-94 mph, and can crank it up to 95-96 on a consistent basis. His velocity has dipped a little in the middle innings, but not enough to be a concern.
Light's slider flashes plus potential but it's definitely not there yet. He's able to cruise through a lineup on his moving fastball in college, but will need his slider to be more consistent at the next level.
Light will have to feature the changeup more as a professional. It's a potential solid-average pitch when he does use it, but he doesn't quite have the conviction with it yet.
A power sinking fastball will take you a long way in professional baseball, and Light has that. If he can get more consistent with his secondaries, his upside is that of a second or third starter in the big leagues.
