Anthony Rizzo's tremendous season with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs is news to no one. His outstanding play earned accolades from the Cubs organization.
Rizzo, the Cubs' top prospect, was named the organization's Player of the Month for May. Also, Daytona pitcher P.J. Francescon was named the Cubs' Pitcher of the Month.
Rizzo posted a .326 batting average, including 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 26 games. In addition, he added a 1.160 OPS, ranking second in the Pacific Coast League. This was Rizzo's second straight month receiving such honor.
Francescon, 23, went 3-1 with a 2.58 earned run average, including a complete game in six May starts. He started the month with the Low-A Peoria Chiefs before getting the call up to High-A Daytona.
