Orioles Sign Three

The Orioles select the contract of two right-handed pitchers and an outfielder.

The Baltimore Orioles selected the contract of two right-handed pitchers and an outfielder today. First they selected the contract of Chase Johnson from the Amarillo Sox and then Marcel Prado of El Paso Diablos. They also purchased the contract of Buddy Sosnoskie of the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the American Association.

Johnson is 6-foot-5 and 245-pounds. He was chosed in the 21st round of the 2009 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent the entire 2012 seaosn in Amarillo and went 5-5 with a 3.66 ERA. He appeared in 44 games, all in relief and compiled 11 saves. He had a 46:22 strikeout to walk ratio.

Prado returned to baseball after not playing the 2011 season. He went 2-3 on the season appearing in 44 games with 15 saves. He stands 6-foot-5, 225-pounds. He was undrafted and signed by the Dodgers in 2004 as a 17-year old. In 2008 he began playing Independant League ball.

Sosnoskie is 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 25th round in 2010 but decided to go back to school at Francis Marion for two season and went undrafted. This summer he played independant ball for Fargo-Moorhead and hit .339 in 53 games. He had two homeruns, 31 RBI and nine stolen bases. He also had five outfield assists.
