Yan earned his third save

Aguilas Cibaenas sidearming closer Johan Yan worked around some trouble to toss a scoreless ninth inning on Friday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Dominican Winter League


Aguilas Cibaenas closer Johan Yan gave up a single and two walks before finishing off a scoreless ninth inning, earning his third save. Yan lowered his winterball ERA to 1.72.

Leury Garcia (0/2) and Hanser Alberto (0/1, HBP) split the game at third base for Cibao, combining to go 0-for-3 with a hit-by pitch. Designated hitter Nelson Cruz, who batted cleanup, was 1-for-5 with an RBI and his first stolen base.

Licey right fielder Engel Beltre had a single and an RBI in four at-bats.



Venezuelan Winter League


After a slow start to his winterball campaign, Magallanes shortstop Elvis Andrus is slowly beginning to heat up. On Friday, Andrus singled once and walked once in five trips. He also had an RBI and his second stolen base.

Lara's Guilder Rodriguez earned his second consecutive start at second base. At the plate, he went 0-for-2 before exiting the game in the eighth inning.

Playing second base and batting third for Aragua, Yangervis Solarte went 0-for-4 with a strikeout and a base on balls.



Mexican Pacific League


No Rangers appeared in Mexico on Friday.



Puerto Rican Winter League


Left fielder Jared Hoying (0/4) and catcher Kevin Torres (0/3) combined to go 0-for-7 for the Leones de Ponce on Friday. Hoying also committed a throwing error, his first of the campaign.

Ponce lefty reliever Alexander Claudio surrendered a double to the only hitter he faced, though he didn't allow a run.

After reaching base in all five of his plate appearances on Thursday, second baseman Janluis Castro earned another start on Friday. The diminutive switch-hitter was 0-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt.



Australian Baseball League


Suddenly scuffling Brisbane centerfielder Hirotoshi Onaka combined to go 0-for-10 with four strikeouts in his club's doubleheader on Friday. Onaka also committed a fielding error, his second.
